Incidentally, there's a total of +10 from those 2 goals, with only +3 from defensemen, so evidently Kerdiles was playing forward and defense at the same time on one goal.

Calgary shouldn't even be in this anyway. If they end up in 8th, an orphan Flames team is good enough to be trouble for the 1st team in the West. We're penalizing Anaheim, LA or Arizona.

We gave Calgary an 18 point penalty as that was our best estimate of the advantage gained from Julien's cheating (12 points from the improved record in those specific games, another 6 for additional advantages from fewer slumps, better stats for their players, etc.). We certainly considered banning them outright and taking away draft picks, etc., but we felt that overly punitive measures to a newly-orphaned team would be counterproductive.

If they make it in in spite of the point penalty then they probably deserve it. Excluding them arbitrarily would have the opposite effect of potentially making it artificially easier in the West.
