Meant to trade for a d-man to complete my Top 4 without moving a core player. This is exactly it.
Always thought Kerdiles is a bit underrated and he's having a solid season despite very limited icetime. I was also willing to part ways with a 2nd rounder for a player who isn't a rental.

Pittsburgh agrees.
McDonagh's a solid player and we'd have used him next year if we couldn't move him, but being able to get a 2nd and a decent young energy player in Kerdiles helps in the long run. Salmivirta/Vlasic just balance the positions out a bit as I would've had more forwards and less defenseman than I'd have liked otherwise.
