Confirmed, the rebuild continues.

Side note, Yakovenko is now my favourite player ever and will be the only untouchable on my team ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is a bigger kind of deal that I was expecting to do, especially after winning the cup, and I recieved some interesting offers on Forbort and I feel like I can sacrifice him and Donskoi, balanced trade overall, and tough decision cap-wise for sure but I believe I will sort it out. Thanks and have fun rebuilding. Good luck

In light of a different trade being rejected, I figured I should maybe elaborate on my thinking here.

Like with Toews, a big part is the cap nature of the league. I was not seeing much interest in Doughty and it seemed very connected to the fact that he's making 6.12mil. I'd turned down one or two offers that I felt did not fit, before negotiations with Dallas.

So again, with the rebuild, for me it starts with the prospects/picks. In this case, Thrun will have overall defence roughly equivalent to Doughty, and, though he will be a ways down on offense, he does still have some offense. The 2nd is what it is, a useful piece either in adding depth or maybe moving up in the draft (something I admit I'm hoping to do).

Forbort and Donskoi are the 'now' pieces, but they're not very old either - Forbort can be a lasting depth D, the kind of 3rd pairing + PP2 + maybe PK2. But also at 3.32mil, he's the kind of player that people might want to squeeze in at a trade deadline in the future. Donskoi is roughly similar, but up front. 2nd or 3rd line, PP2, and maybe PK2, and costing under 3mil. So again, I see him attracting attention at a trade deadline. Both could also just stick around for my rebuild - I will need experienced bodies too, after all.

Hawryluk and Yakovenko are of lesser value, of course. Hawryluk a probable 4th liner who at least has some leadership (he might well be captain, depending on whether I decide to retain Horcoff), while Yakovenko, putting aside my jokes, is clearly a throw in from Dallas' point of view. For me, I want to see what happens with him. If he fully develops that offense, maybe he could be a 3rd pairing powerplay weapon? Sort of like Marc Andre Bergeron was in Montreal, among other examples. If I pair him with a pure defensive defenceman, like Bahl, would it work? I don't know, but I want to try and find out. I threw his name out there as a bit of a joke, but I have had success in the past building glass cannons (high offense, low defence teams) - if nothing else, they're a hell of a lot of fun.
