Sabres Hire New GM

Officially the Buffalo Sabres have signed a new GM. With Van Rossum opting not to take the option on the final year of his contract, fans were left wondering who would continue the rebuild. That question has been answered; GM Renney will be taking the reigns. Renney has no experience playing hockey at any level, nor has he ever been involved in professional or even competitive leagues. He hasn't even played online fantasy. When asked about this he answered sheepishly, "I started a small road hockey league in elementary school, does that count? How 'bout EA NHL? He cites a love of hockey, a lifelong following of the sad existence of the Vancouver Canucks and an unfulfillable dream as the main reasons for becoming an EHEC GM.

Having missed the playoffs for the last 5 years, and 13 of the last 14, initial reactions from Sabres fans were positive until they realized their new GM has no experience in a league with other humans. We took to the streets of downtown Buffalo to get some reactions.
"I can't figure out why Pegula keeps hiring GM's with no prior experience. There were better options. Botterill from Seattle, Mellanby from Florida? Heck, even a guy like Mike Gillis? He was great in Vancouver."
"Don't the Pegulas want to win?!"
"I expected nothing and am still disappointed."

Not all the reactions were negative however.
"I suppose it can't get worse."
"Only time will tell how bad he is. We can always replace him."
"At least we have a GM now."

While Renney still hasn't held a press conference or been welcomed to the team, our insider sources indicate he will run the 2023 EHEC draft. It is unclear at this time if Head Coach Lindy Ruff or any of the other staff members will return for the 2024 season. With crunch time already underway it will not take long for Sabres fans to get a sense of their new GM.
